John Nelson was introduced by Sue Nelson. John is a member of the Central Fire Board in Windsor along with fellow Rotarians Steve Klick and Craig Curreri.

Marc Elin introduced WHS teacher Allison Frenzel and student Jaiden Boucher who will be honored later in the program

Craig Curreri introduced Windsor Police Chief Chris Spallino who in turn introduced the members of the Windsor Police department in attendance. Craig then introduced both retiring Central Fire Chief Doug Williams and newly hired Central Fire Chief Jack Puccinini. Doug then introduced members of Windsor Central Fire in attendance for our Annual Public Safety Appreciation Day.

Scholarship Committee

Chairperson of the Scholarship Committee, Allen Christenson, announced the committee met this past week and evaluated the student applications. The committee awarded $13,000 dollars in scholarships to students in the Windsor community. A special thanks to the committee for their efforts. The money will be distributed at the June Awards Night at Windsor High School.

WUSD Superintendent and WHS Principal Marc Elin were congratulated on behalf of the four students recognized in Sonoma County as outstanding students and volunteers in the community in their respective areas. Congratulations to the following.

District Training Assembly – April 9, 2016

President Marc Elin thanked those who attended annual District Training Assembly held Saturday, April 9th at Mendocino College in Ukiah. Our own Maureen Merrill was the keynote speaker at lunch. Thanks to Tom Boylan, Wally Krutz, and Rene Hyde who were also featured as presenters at the District Training Session.

Lobster Feed Fundraiser – May 14, 2016

Fundraiser chair Tom Hassur updated the Club on the Lobster Feed Fundraiser scheduled for Saturday, May 14, 2016. Keep the silent auction items coming in and hurry to sign up for a dinner tickets as the event will be sold out. Your “Party Table Under construction” forms are available to reserve a ticket. Fundraiser meeting will be held at Tom Hassur’s office at 5:30 pm on Wednesday evening.

Student Recognition – Nueva School for the Performing Arts

Performing Arts Teacher Allison Frenzel introduced WHS student Jaiden Boucher and spoke of her accomplishments in the field of Performing Arts. Jaiden is a 4.0 student and will attend Sonoma State University in the fall and will major in physics. She was presented with a check and a plague as Student of the Month in Vocational Arts.

Windsor Oaks Academy – Rotary Career Explorer Program

Bill Arnone, Allen Christensen, Bill Bolster and Larry Wasem were commended for their efforts with the Rotary Career Explorer Program. This program provides speakers and vocational experiences to the students of Windsor Oaks Academy.

Sandy Krutz announced our next social gathering this next Sunday at the Limerick Winery for tasting, fellowship and snacks. A sign-up sheet was circulated.

Windsor Chile Cook-Off

Our own Steve Klick has entered the Windsor Chile Cook-off scheduled for Saturday, April 23 from 12:00 to 4:00 pm. Join in the fun and remember to vote frequently for Steve’s Chile as the best of the day!

Service Above Self Awards

Craig Curreri introduced Police Chief Chris Spallino to provide a brief overview of the status of public safety in the Windsor Community. Chris reported that Windsor continues to be one of the safest towns in Sonoma County. While property crimes are up a little bit, the community continues to have no major problems

Chris Spallino then introduced his recipient for the Service Above Self Award for the year. Tom Piersal was selected for this honor. Tom has been a police officer for 27 years serving the last three with the Windsor Police Department. According to his Chief, Tom is the consummate police officer with the “best flat-top” in the state of California. Tom received a plaque and the thanks of the Rotary Club of Windsor.

Central Fire District

Craig Curreri introduced retiring Central Fire District Chief Doug Williams. Doug provided an overview of fire services in Windsor and the county. Doug discussed the challenge of sending four fire crews to the Lake County fires while maintaining fire protection services in the town. He also discussed a new Emergency Operation Center that would be a collaborative effort with other local fire services and the police Department. The goal continues to be improving the delivery of service.

Craig Curreri than took back the microphone and presented the Service Above Self Award to Fire Chief Doug Williams. This award was a unanimous choice by members of the Central Fire District. Doug Williams has had an amazing career beginning as a Explorer for the Rincon Valley Fire department in 1969 highlighted by being recognized as Fire Chief of the Year for the State of California in 2010. Congratulations to Doug Williams for his many accomplishment and Service Above Self to the community.
